How to Store Macarons

Macarons are a fresh product that should be kept in the fridge. They should be soft and chewy. Have a read of our top tips for storing your macarons to make sure they are at their best for when you want to serve them.

Storing Macarons

If you are anything like us then you’ll probably eat your macarons in the first sitting as soon as they arrive. But, if you have the level of self-control that we have always dreamed of you’ll be able to follow these tips. You macarons will likely all have different fillings in, however they should all be stored in the same way regardless of if the have a buttercream filling or a chocolate ganache - in the fridge.
We recommend you keep your macarons in the packaging they are delivered in or in an airtight container. Depending on the humidity of your fridge this will keep them from drying out or will keep the moisture off them and preserve them as long as possible.

How Long do Macarons Last?

Our macarons can be kept for a week when stored correctly in the fridge. After this time, although they should be safe to eat the quality and texture starts to decline, so we recommend you eat them before then.

Eating Your Macarons

Definitely the best part of the whole macaron buying experience - the eating of your macarons! To ensure you get the best eating experience we recommend you take them out of the fridge half an hour before enjoying.

Can You Freeze Macarons?

Technically yes. However bakeries and anyone in the macaron business will often freeze macarons as part of the making process. This helps to develop the structure so they stay chewy rather than going soggy. So we would not recommend freezing them as refreezing could affect the texture further and they can become unsafe from a food safety point of view.

How Long Can They be on Display For?

We often get asked if they can be on display for the whole day, which is common at weddings and parties that are serving our Macaron Towers. This is a tricky one to answer as it depends on where you are serving them. On a hot sunny day in a stuffy wedding tent, probably not. The ganache and buttercream filling will start to melt, risking loosing structure and making them tricky for your guests to eat. However in mild, dry weather they should be fine to leave out. However we would suggest they are then eaten on the day rather than being refrigerated again for later.

So use your judgement and keep in mind they are best kept cool for long periods of time.
